Common questions

Is Terminal Quest free?
Yes. Terminal Quest is completely free to play, with no payment and no sign-up required to start. You can begin in your browser right away.
What will I learn?
You learn the real Linux/Unix command line by playing: navigating the filesystem with ls, cd, and pwd; reading and editing files; searching with find and grep; changing permissions with chmod and sudo; managing processes with ps and kill; and using pipes and redirection.
Does it save my progress?
Yes. Progress is saved as you play, and signed-in players get cloud-save resume, so you can pick up your adventure on any device. Playing as a guest still saves progress in your browser.
Do I need to install anything?
No. Terminal Quest runs entirely in your web browser — there is nothing to install, no virtual machine, and no SSH. It works on Chromebooks and locked-down school devices, which makes it safe for classrooms.
